New York Apartments for Rent

I recently moved to New York City because I found a new job. I have been staying temporarily at my friend’s place. However, I do need to move out and find my own New York apartments for rent. NYC is huge and there are lots of rental units. Of course the most expensive apartments would be in Manhattan. Unfortunately for me, I could not afford living in Manhattan. My job happens to be there though. I decided it would probably be best to live in one of New York’s boroughs which include Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. I could also live in New Jersey to since it is close by.

I went online and searched for apartments using sites such as Craigslist. I would like to find a place in Queens because I feel like that is a nice area to live. All the boroughs have extensive subway lines that go to Manhattan. I would preferably like to live close to one of those subway stations. On Craigslist, you can search for apartments according to where you want to live, the amount of rent you want to pay, and also the number of bedrooms that you prefer. You can also try some other sites that specialize in helping you to find apartments in NYC. Sites such as Rent.com are good places to go to for help. After finding a list of apartments that were attractive to me, I made an appointment to go see these apartments. I wanted to be sure that the apartments were good and also I wanted to scope out the neighborhood. There are some areas in NYC that you do not want to live in. Each borough has their own bad neighborhoods.

For those people that can afford it, you should definitely live in Manhattan. All the things to do are there and it would be nice to not have to travel by subway for long distances. The apartments that I found were all at least 40 minutes away from downtown Manhattan. Of course living farther out from Manhattan is not bad either. Many of the surrounding cities will have most everything that you could want in a city. The best thing to do is to figure out a budget. You do not want to spend more than 30% of your income on rent. That should give you a starting point for searching for apartments.
